LUFTWAFFE SALVER OF HONOR AWARDED TO TO AN OFFICER SERVING WITH THE HERMANN GORING DIVISION.
The Luftwaffe salver was Hermann Goring's personal awards for bravery to members of the Luftwaffe ground forces and was a way of bridging the gap with the Luftwaffe honor goblet which was his personal award to members of his flight units. This example comes from an advanced old collection and has not been cleaned for many years and has a very nice and attractive old age patina. The salver features the Reichmarshall's eagle and swastika with crossed batons and with award details, MAJOR WALDEMAR KLUG AM 10.6.1943 and inscription, IN ANERKENNUNG HERVORRAGENDER KAMPFLEISTUNGEN. The outer border of the salver is decorated with 12 oakleaves. The reverse side is stamped with the makers details, Feinsilber Alpaka Auflage Jon.Wagner & Sohn. The salver has light age wear to the silver plating but over all it is in superb condition. The salver was awarded to Major Waldemar Kluge, he was born in 1904 in Kupferberg, he left school in 1923 and joined the German police in 1925 and was eventually promoted to Lieutenant of police. He transfered to the Luftwaffe and eventually became the commander of Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager Panzer Grenadier Regiment 2 of the Hermann Goring division and was awarded the salver in June 1943 while serving with the HG Division, on the 2nd of August 1943 he was awarded the knight cross still serving with the HG Division. Kluge was eventually promoted to Colonel and commander of Fallschirm Pannzergrenadier Regiment 1 Hermann Goring Division. Oberst Kluge survived the war and died in 1978. Comes complete with some research details about Kluge and also several photocopy photographs of him in Luftwaffe uniform.
