GERMAN HIGH RANKING GOLD FIRE OFFICIALS DAGGER WITH PRESENTATION BLADE BELONGING TO EDWARD ROSS.

GERMAN HIGH RANKING GOLD FIRE OFFICIALS DAGGER WITH PRESENTATION BLADE BELONGING TO EDWARD ROSS.

This fascinating and important dagger is from the B.J.Lane collection of German edged weapons and it originally belonged to Edward Ross the leader of the German fire service from Kellinghusen. The dagger comes with a large research file concerning this dagger and the original owner including a letter from descendent's of the original German fire service officer. Gilt brass flaming ball pommel and matching gilt crossguard are in superb condition. The black horn handle is in mint condition. The beautiful and very impressive blade is in fine condition, the obverse side features a long ornate foliage panel with six line presentation inscription, IHREM FOURIER HERN EDWARD ROSS VONDER FREI MITTIGEN GEUERMEHR IM KELLINGHUSSEN AM.MAI 1879 (the script is very decorative and complicated and so difficult to read). The reverse side of the blade also has a long floral panel which includes firefighting designs such as, crossed ladders, fire service helmet and fire service Axe. Black leather scabbard with matching gilt fittings. Complete with the dagger is a large research file, Mr Lain conducted considerable research into this dagger and managed to contact in Germany descendent's of the Edward Ross family and they actually stated that the dagger was liberated by British soldiers while staying in the family home in 1945. Gold fire officials daggers are very rare and are apparently only for high ranking officers and are much harder to find than the silver type, a fascinating dagger with much history and i am sure more to discover.
