SA MARINE DAGGER IN GOLD 1933 MODEL BY HENCKLES.

SA MARINE DAGGER IN GOLD 1933 MODEL BY HENCKLES.

This is a rare dagger to find, I have owned only two or three gilt SA Marine daggers over the last 40 years. The brown wooden grip is in near mint condition, it is fitted with SA insignia and eagle. The gold plated nickel crossguards and pommel nut retain about 85% gilt finish just showing light wear, the lower crossguard is stamped Wf for the Westfalen SA group. The blade is still very bright showing just light wear, the obverse side features the SA motto and the reverse side is maker marked, J.A.Henckels Solingen with there twins trade mark. Brown anodised scabbard is in very nice condition, the nickel fitting are gold plated and retain about 85% original gilt finish, the ball on the lower fitting has a slight dent. All SA groups had at least one SA marine unit, those who were based inland operated on rivers and large lakes. Most members of SA marine units carried the standard dagger but from existing examples in collections it is known that some opted to carry a dagger with gilt fittings and this is a good example of one of these. The last photograph in the the selection of photographs is for a colour comparison with a standard silver SA dagger and it is not included in the price. A rare dagger missing from most collections which I can highly recommend. Exc++
