From 1935-1939 Major Purvis served on the staff of the Governor of New Zealand as his military secretary. In 1939 he was posted to Paris to be the Equery to the Duke of Windsor, the former King of England who abdicated in 1936 and who it is believed was a supporter of Fascism and the Third Reich and a close friend of Sir Oswald Mosley the leader of the British union of fascists. SA MARINE DAGGER, 1933 MODEL .

SA MARINE DAGGER, 1933 MODEL .

Information about the elusive SA marine dagger is limited but it is known that SA daggers exist with a black grip, black scabbard and silver fittings and it is believed these were issued to the SA marine, I believe the 1936 edition of the NSDAP organization book depicts this model dagger. All silver plated hilt fittings shows some age lifting typical for an RZM issue dagger from this period . The grip is black and shows age wear with the original brown colour below and just as you would expect, the grip is also inset with the standard eagle and SA runes insignia. The superb blade is in near mint condition with much cross grain still remaining, the obverse side features the SA motto, the reverse side features the makers details, M7/51 1939 and with trade mark below, a man in armour for the maker Anton Wingen Solingen and which is very interesting as many of the known original SA marine daggers in collections are also produced by this maker. The scabbard is from the same RZM period and it is fitted with matching silver plated fittings showing identical ageing, the black scabbard paint also shows similar ageing but it is still about 85% remaining, much of the wear is to the reverse side. This is only the 3rd example of an SA marine dagger I have owned in over 40 years as a collector and dealer. An almost unique chance to own a rare dagger model that very few other collectors will have in there collection and at a very realistic price which is only slightly more than I would ask for a standard SA dagger. SS CHAINED LEADERS DAGGER, 1936 MODEL.

SS CHAINED LEADERS DAGGER, 1936 MODEL.

This is a mid production example dating to about 1938 or just after and it has type 2 chains. All hilt fittings are the plated type but still retain a good percentage of silver plating. The fine quality black ebony grip is inset with the SS runic badge and silver eagle, there is a small chip to the bottom of the grip close to the crossguard and there is also a small crack in the same area, but it is not a major problem and this is still a very nice looking grip. The blade features the SS motto to the obvers side and it is plain to the reverse side with out a makers name which is correct for the chained dagger model, the blade is bright but there is some spotting and age to the blade. Anodised scabbard is in very nice condition and it is fitted with matching plated fittings which perfectly match the hilt fittings, the ball to the lower fitting has a very slight dent as they often do. Complete with 2nd type chains featuring links decorated with SS runes and SS skulls, the reverse side of one of the links is stamped with the SS runic acceptance mark (Kulturzeichen), the clip is in good working order. A nice example of an SS chained leaders dagger and priced very realistically as the last couple of SS chained daggers which I have sold were priced considerably more than this example so this one is extremely good value, especially as SS daggers are very high in demand at the moment.
