LUFTWAFFE 1ST MODEL / DLV DAGGER BY SMF COMPLETE WITH CHAIN HANGER.
This is a scarce and very early production Luftwaffe dagger that has a solid leather scabbard and the fitting held in place by large metal staples rather than screws, this pattern is believed to have been worn by the DLV and also the Luftwaffe, they date from the initial production period of this model dagger in 1935 before factory standardization took over. All early nickel silver hilt fittings, excellent detail to the brass swastikas to the pommel and crossguard. The grip is in perfect condition. Near mint blade by SMF Solingen, it is also stamped with an acceptance stamp. The scabbard as mentioned above is solid leather rather than the more typical latter type which is leather over a metal shell, the springs inside the scabbard have moved slightly over the years and there is the typical bulge to the lower part of the scabbard which is often seen with daggers of this early vintage and is nice to see, all 3 scabbard fittings are held in place by large metal staples which are seen only on very early production daggers.
