THIRD REICH NAVAL OFFICERS DAGGER BY EICKHORN COMPLETE WITH STRAPS AND KNOT.
This very nice example was purchased privately and it has never been in a collection, it was originally liberated in Norway in 1945 and brought back to England as a war souvenir. The crossguard and pommel still retains almost all original gilt finish with slight age to the reverse side of the eagle. The grip is in mint condition except for one small mark to the left hand side edge of the grip, it is difficult to tell if it is a scratch or a crack but as it does not run to the top of the grip it is probably just a scratch, it is not really noticeable as it is covered by the original knot. The blade is in near mint condition and it is double etched with the anchor and fouled anchor design, the reverse side is stamped with the Eickhorn Solingen 1935 / 41 pattern trade mark. The lightning bolt scabbard is in really nice condition and it still retains 98% gilt finish. Complete with a set of gilt naval straps, the lion head buckles are not 100% matching but this is not really noticeable until pointed out but they are certainly 100% original to this dagger, Complete with original gold knot showing slight wear especially on the reverse side from rubbing on the officers tunic over many years. Nice complete set. Exc++
