DLV / LUFTWAFFE 1ST MODEL EARLY TYPE DAGGER BY WAYERSBERG.

This is the model dagger was introduced in 1935 to replace the DLV 55cm dagger and it has many similarity's to that model but it is shorter so more practical to wear, this model was probably carried by officers of the DLV and then latter by Luftwaffe officers. All early nickel silver fitting have an attractive black age patina as the dagger has never been cleaned. The pommel and crossguard have inset brass swastika disks. The blue leather grip is in excellent condition. The plated blade is by Paul Wayersberg Solingen, there is also an issue number 234 stamped to the blade just below the crossguard, there are a few age marks to the plating but over all this is a really nice blade. The scabbard is solid leather which is only ever seen on daggers of the very earliest of vintage, latter examples will have a leather covered metal shell, the springs inside the scabbard shell have moved slightly over the years forming some very attractive bumps in the shell, a very nice feature to see. All three matching nickel silver mounts are held in place by a single staple to the reverse side of each fitting. The matching nickel silver chain is in very nice condition, the spring clip is marked on the reverse side DRGM 926719, this same mark is often seen on the DLV 55cm and very early Luftwaffe daggers chain clips, both bottom links are fitted with S clips which are often seen on DLV 55cm daggers and also on these very early Luftwaffe type daggers.
