ANTIQUE ENGLISH FLINTLOCK FOUR BARREL VOLLEY PISTOL BY KETLAND.
Volley pistols were popular for putting down a mutiny on a ship, violent riot or similar situations. This example is fitted with four barrels, when the trigger is pulled all four barrels would be fired to almost certainly devastating affect, unlike the more common tap action pistol which each barrel is fired separately. The pistol has brass frame with four brass barrels with a steel trigger guard and flint lock action which is in good working order. The pistol is engraved with the makers details, T.KETTLAND LONDON. The barrels are marked with one to four small dots to each which match the marking on the base of the gun and so all fully matching, the gun also has proof marks. The wooden grip is in excellent condition. The Ketterland company was establish in 1760 as gun makers, Ketterland died in 1816. This antique flint lock pistol measures just under 9 inches long so it is a substantial size. Exc++ .
