SCOTTISH HIGHLAND DIRK, VERY EARLY EXAMPLE DATING TO THE 1830'S.

William the 4th period Scottish dirk by Mason. long 34cm blade with an engraved with a geometric design. Interesting characteristic black wooden hilt with silver mounts (almost certainly silver but not hall marked which is often the case with Scottish silver). The pommel is inset with a large faceted stone. Carved black wooden grip with Celtic knot design. Matching black leather scabbard with three silver mounts, complete with knife and fork, both pommels inset with matching stones, the blade of the knife is stamped with a crowed WR for King William and makers name Mason. This large Scottish dirks blade is possibly from a much earlier family dirk that was refitted into new mounts when the dirk was produced in the 1830's. An very attractive and historical Scottish dirk. Size complete with scabbard 21 inches or 53cm. Exc++
