This passenger ship is probably better known to British citizens than collectors from other country's because of the British Governments Windrush enquiry / report. Gold lapel badge that is designed as a ships wheel with coloured enamel centre featuring two flags and title, SS EMPIRE WINDRUSH. The reverse side is fitted with pin and hook. The ship was originally built in Germany in 1930 and named Monte Rosa, the ship was used during WW2 as a German troop ship. After the war it was taken over by the British and renamed the Empire Windrush and used for various transport needs, in 1948 the ship brought one of the first groups of over 1000 West Indian immigrants to the UK. Many years latter in 2018 there was important Government inquiry into these first West Indian Immigrants into the UK. In 1954 the ship caught fire and sank. Complete with the base of the original issue box. A rare and most unusual badge. Mint.
