BRITISH VICTORIAN CUSTOMS RUMMAGE / SWORD STICK.

A very nice antique briar wood sword stick with brass mounts. Square section blade coming to a sharp point at the end and it is lightly stamped with maker details, MOLE IRM (Birmingham).These sticks were used by the British customs service for checking for illegal contraband which was perhaps concealed in bales or similar objects and they were also perfect for self defence. Mole seems to be the main maker for Victorian customs sticks. Exc++
