SS CHAINED OFFICERS DAGGER 1936 MODEL.

This dagger comes from a grouping of 10 that I purchased privately and it has never been in a collection. This in an early production example of the SS chained leaders dagger which has been worn and it does have some condition issues. All early nickel silver fittings which puts it amongst the very first chained daggers to be issued in the1936/37 period. All early nickel silver hilt fittings have a superb age patina as it has never been cleaned. The black ebony grip is complete with the SS runic badge and silver eagle, there is one chip to the grip on the obverse side just under the upper crossguard. The blade features the SS motto to the obverse side, the reverse side is plain with out a makers name which is correct for the SS chained dagger, the blade does show extensive spotting and age but the motto can still be clearly seen and the blade is bright and it could certainly be improved by carful cleaning. The scabbard is the black painted type but it shows age wear to the paint finish, all metal scabbard fittings are matching nickel silver and just like the hilt fitting they have a really attractive age patina, the centre mount features six linked swastikas. The chained hanger is type 2, the clover leaf spring clip is in working order and the reverse side of one of the links has the SS Kulturzeichen stamp, the small upper metal link left hand side that attaches to the clover leaf is an old replacement but it is not obvious and it is from the period, it was almost certainly replaced by the original owner, the Skulls and SS runic links are matching nickel silver and the smaller connecting links are a combination of nickel and steel, it is possible that the steel links are old war time replacements or the dagger was made with a combination of both, it is very difficult to know for certain. I do not believe that the dagger has ever been taken apart and certainly not by me. Bargain price for a very desirable early issued chained SS dagger, if the condition was better it would be priced close on 10k. Exc
