LATE VICTORIAN GERMAN PRODUCD NAVAL DAGGER.

This naval dagger was manufactured in Germany probably by the Herder company for export for to a foreign navy, I am not sure which country but possibly to a country in south America such as Brazil (if you know the actual country please let me know). Silver eagle head hilt with small swivel ring to the eagle beak, the quality is superb. White bone grip is in excellent condition. The crossguard terminates in two highly detailed lion heads one of which has a small silver ring in its mouth. Plain steel blade, it is not maker marked but from research the maker is probably Herder Solingen. The black leather scabbard has an attractive chequered design and it is mounted with two matching silver mounts, the top mount has an ornate scabbard stud decorated with an oakleath or similar. Circa 1890. Near mint.
