THE FENCER, 1930'S AUSTRIAN COLD PAINTED WHITE METAL FIGURE.
This rare figure was designed by by the important Austrian artist Josef Lorenzl in the 1930's, the figure is unsigned as they always are but it is attributed to Lorenzl. The figure depicts a beautiful Nordic looking young lady fencer wearing a red cloak with fencing sword in hand and the scabbard attached to her waist by a long belt. The figure sits on a marble base. Josef Lorenzl was born in 1892 and became one of the most important metal work artists in Austria working from the Vienna arsenal, he died in Austria in 1950. A number of artist's working with metal work and ceramics produced various figures of a fencer during the Third Reich as it was a very popular design with the NSDAP leadership, a good example would be the rare SS Allach figure of a fencer.
