BRITISH 1912 MODEL CAVALRY OFFICERS SWORD BY WILKINSON BELONGING TO COLONEL AITKEN DSO.
The leather wire bound grip is in perfect condition. Silver metal hilt with decorative pommel cap and ornate highly decorated basket hilt.The plated blade is in mint condition and it features the full Wilkinson London makers trade mark, sword proof mark and the Wilkinson factory sword issue number, the blade is double etched with two long floral panels featuring Royal coat of arms and George the 5th Royal cypher, the blade also features a panel with owners name, J.J.AITKEN RVC. Matching silver scabbard showing some slight plating age wear. Complete with officers gold and red bullion sword knot. The sword belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Aitken who served with army veterinary corps and he had a long carrier with the army serving before WW1 in Africa and then on the outbreak of war in 1914 he was brought back to Europe, 1915 he was mentioned in dispatches in France, in 1917 he was sent to the USA to assist in the formation of the American army Veterinary corps. Colonel Aitken was highly decorated officer being awarded the DSO, CMG & the OBE, this is only a very short history and i am sure there is much more to discover about this highly decorated and interesting British army officer.
