This beautiful silver and enamel cigarette box was presented to Hermann Goring by the German district hunting leader Wittekap and it is complete with a letter from Wittekap to Hermann Goring dated 1938. A very attractive silver oblong cigarette box with decorative border to the lid, inset into the lid is a superb green enameled plaque which depicts a hunter with rifle in a forest glade with several stags and deers in the background and mounted to the center of the enameled plaque is a large fine quality silver Third Reich hunting association badge which depicts a stags head with swastika between it's antlers and then below this the organizations initials DJ. On the front of the box is a three line presentation inscription, MEINEN BESTEN WEIDMANNSDANK HERR REICH JAGERMEISTER P.WITTEKAP (The Reich Jagermeister was Goring's unique rank as leader of the German hunting organization).The handle that lifts the lid is inset with 12 tiny stones which appear to be diamonds but i am not sure if they actually are.The side of the box is stamped 800 for the silver content.The base of the box is lined in black leather and the interior of the box is wood lined.The box sits on four decorative feet. Complete with an original letter that would have accompanied the box from the Kreisjagermeister P.Wittekap to Hermann Goring and dated 22.8.1938. Size of the box is approximately 6 inches x 4 inches. Providence, this Hermann Goring silver box was originally part of the famous Dr Millstone collection of the USA, i purchased the box about 25 years ago and sold it to a collector, recently i had the opportunity to own it again.
