The SS civilian badge was actually considered an award, an SS member could request the badge after 2 years service and if accepted it would then be awarded to him, the first awards were made in 1932 and it was apparently discontinued in the early war years. Circular metal badge featuring silver SS runes on a black enameled background with silver border.The reverse side of the badge features the SS issue number 1588 and also the makers name, Hoffstatter / Bonn which was the only maker of the official badge, complete with long tie pin fitting.
